Presidential Search Guidelines and Directory.
Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges
This guide for trustees and search committee members who are involved in the process of selecting a college or university president provides background information and questions to ask when interviewing search consultants, as well as a directory of search consultants. An introductory section on selection guidelines covers how a search consultant can help, and notes the procedures for selecting a search consultant. Suggested questions to ask a potential consultant or firm cover such topics as defining any unique aspects of the search process, time factors and scheduling, fees and expenses, principal personnel, and the number of presidential searches conducted by the consultant over the last year. An illustrative code of ethics for a search committee is also provided. The directory section includes in-depth profiles of 13 consulting firms. Profiles include principal personnel, a list of the institutions for which the firm conducted full academic presidential searches since 1996; a statement of operating principles, general approach, and typical process; a statement concerning professional staff who work on a typical search; a statement of other work the firm conducts; and measures of success.
