Monitoring First Graders' Motivation through the Revising and Editing Phase of Writing Projects.
The data gathered for this study supported the hypothesis that first grade students can revise and edit original writing projects without experiencing any significant loss in motivation. This hypothesis was confirmed after the students had finished writing and revising three original stories while utilizing three separate revision strategies. The three strategies implemented were: (1) making revisions based on small group writing conferences; (2) revising with a parent at home; and (3) revising with the teacher on a computer. Student motivation for each project was monitored through individual surveys that were conducted after the students had completed each step of the writing process.
