This document consists of four issues of the quarterly report "Alaska's Children," which provides information on the Alaska Head Start State Collaboration Project and updates on Head Start activities in Alaska. Regular features in the issues include a calendar of conferences and meetings, a status report on Alaska's children, reports from the Alaska Children's Trust, and "Collaboration Briefings," updates on the collaboration project activities. The Winter 1998 issue focuses on revising Head Start, including family and community partnerships and early childhood development and health services; the governor's state of the child address; and the Smart Start Initiative. The Spring 1998 issue contains articles on the National Head Start Association, news from the Alaska Head Start Association, and the Alaska governor's remarks at the National Head Start Conference. The Summer 1998 issue highlights the importance of early experience for brain growth and development, the effects of early comprehensive programs for children and families, and a conference schedule for "The Early Years, The Critical Years" conference. The Fall 1998 issue focuses on supporting emergent literacy in Alaska's population and a description of the goals of the National Indian Head Start Directors Association. (KB)
