Wired Together: The Online Classroom in K-12. Volumes 1-4.
Berge, Zane L., Ed.; Collins, Mauri P., Ed.
This four volume set in the series is designed especially for all members of the primary and secondary educational community, with chapter authors focusing on the pedagogical challenges in their various situations and writing about how computer-mediated communication (CMC) is used to address them. This series focuses on teaching and learning, using a wide range of computer-mediated technologies in a broad spectrum of settings. An international group of over 100 teachers, school media specialists, administrators, and teacher educators from seven different countries contributed to the series. Volume 1, "Perspectives and Instructional Design," introduces general issues in the use of CMC in K-12 and looks at three different implementation models and a variety of perspectives and instructional designs for the use of CMC in the K-12 classroom. Volume 2, "Case Studies," gives an overview of the use of CMC in primary and secondary education, followed by case studies in social studies, math, and science. Also explored are the use of CMC with students with disabilities, the role of library media centers in the implementation of CMC, and the training of both teachers and students. Volume 3, "Teacher Education and Professional Development," looks at several facets of teachers' experiences in implementing technology and CMC for preservice and inservice teachers. Volume 4, "Writing, Reading and Language Acquisition," targets teachers of reading, writing, and second language in primary and secondary schools; it is a compilation of case studies of successful distributed-learning programs and projects in various settings that provide concepts and practical models for application in a variety of classroom settings.
