Rumors, Conflicts, Resolutions: A Mediation Training Video for Middle School and High School Students. [Videotape].
Conflict Resolution Unlimited, Inc., Bellevue, WA.
Young people need to learn and to use alternative dispute resolution skills at school as well as in their daily lives. Ways in which to instruct high school and middle school students in these skills are detailed in the leader's guide and accompanying video. As illustrated by the video, Conflict Resolution Unlimited's (CRU) mediation model is one where disputants and mediator(s) sit around a table and, in a structured, orderly manner, discuss the issues in dispute. This format facilitates direct communication between the disputants and encourages them to work with one another to resolve problems in the future. The video opens with a dramatization of a typical high school or middle school dispute involving a boy-girl rumor situation. The mediation session which follows is conducted by two student mediators. The discussion section of the video presents some benefits and challenges of the program from several points of view intended to stimulate further discussion. The video complements the CRU programs for middle and high school students. (EMK)
