Multiple Assessments for Multiple Intelligences. Third Edition.
Bellanca, James; Chapman, Carolyn; Swartz, Elizabeth
This book is designed to align assessment with instructional practices that promote the development of the multiple intelligences outlined by Howard Gardner. To facilitate the use of multiple assessments for the multiple intelligences, the information in this book is transferable to the classroom. The book explains how a teacher can design specific performance standards for each intelligence and then apply them to the classroom. It also explains why each intelligence is important to the curriculum and offers ways to strengthen each intelligence. Chapters 1 and 2 place assessment standards in a context beneficial to all teachers and students. Chapters 4 through 11 center on assessment of a specific intelligence, although the majority of classroom learning framed by Gardner's theory does not focus on a single intelligence. Chapter 12 focuses on a multiple intelligences portfolio, and the final chapter discusses communicating results of multiple intelligences assessment. The following chapters are included: (1) "The Assessment Challenge: Assessing Classroom Standards"; (2) "Multiple Strategies for Multiple Intelligences"; (3) "Multiple Tools for Multiple Assessments"; (4) "Assessing Performances in Verbal/Linguistic Intelligence"; (5) "Assessing Performances in Musical/Rhythmic Intelligence"; (6) "Assessing Performances in Logical/Mathematical Intelligence"; (7) "Assessing Performances in Visual/Spatial Intelligence"; (8) "Assessing Performances in Bodily/Kinesthetic Intelligence"; (9) "Assessing Performances in Intrapersonal Intelligence"; (10) "Assessing Performances in Interpersonal Intelligence"; (11) "Assessing Performances in Naturalist Intelligence"; (12) "Creating a Multiple Intelligences Portfolio"; and (13) "Communicating Multiple Intelligences Assessment with Parents."
