Bilingual Encounters: Spanish-English Medical and Legal Dialogues. A Practical Resource for Educators and Students of Interpreting. Interpreting and Translation Publications Series, No. 1.
Thirty-eight dialogues are presented, each illustrating a common, real-life interpreting situation involving medical and/or legal issues and terminology. Each involves both Spanish and English languages, and the situations are specific to New South Wales, Australia. They are designed to be used as a resource in teaching interpreting. The situations occur: at the offices of medical practitioners (specialists (audiologist, cardiologist, general practitioner, ear/nose/throat specialist, neurologist, oncologist, pediatrician, urologist, family planning center); in medico-legal contexts (insurance claims); in police contexts (interviews, answering charges, breath analysis, rape); and in legal contexts (legal aid, lawyer's office, courtroom, compensation claims, divorce, hearings, mediation, consumer claim, acting as a witness, giving evidence, litigation). English-Spanish and Spanish-English glossaries are provided for medical, legal, and technical vocabulary. Contains 13 references. (MSE)
