Sexual Harassment in the Schools. Background on Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 and Guidance Issued by the Office of Civil Rights.

Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 prohibits sex discrimination in all schools and education programs that receive federal funds. Sexual harassment of students is one form of sex discrimination barred by the law. Detailed guidance on Title IX, issued by the Office of Civil Rights of the Department of Education, the enforcement agency for Title IX, is intended to clear up any confusion. The "Introduction" lists key points set out in the guidance.
