Student Leadership Practices Inventory. Facilitator's Guide.

This manual provides assistance in designing and conducting a leadership program for college students based on the "Student Leadership Practices Inventory" (Student LPI). The Student LPI extends previous research among business leaders to student leaders; it measures leadership practice in college students. Many young people taking a leadership course for the first time already have more leadership experience than they realize. The Student LPI has two forms, Self and Observer. It can be used with a workshop to help students learn leadership skills. Contents of the facilitator's manual are: (1) "Introduction"; (2) "Origin of the Student Version of the Leadership Practices Inventory"; (3) "The Leadership Practices"; (4) "Student LPI Feedback Workshop Design"; (5) "Workshop Process Details"; (6) "Design and Follow-Up Options." Recommended readings are organized by topic. Masters for overhead transparencies and handouts, checklists of "Actions for Meeting the Leadership Challenge," normative data, and information about computerized scoring are appended. Information is also provided for other uses of the inventory such as leader selection, performance feedback, and leadership research. This manual is part of a group of offerings on the topic of leadership. (EMK)
