Partners in the Transfer of Learning. A Resource Manual for Workplace Instructors.
Taylor, Maurice
This manual explains how workplace instructors, trainees, and supervisors can form a partnership to facilitate the transfer of learning from workplace education classrooms to the workplace. The following topics are discussed in parts 1-6: introduction (transfer of learning, the role and time model of learning transfer); the context for transfer of learning (context, role and time combinations in learning transfer); partners in the transfer of learning (key transfer of learning strategies for instructors, trainees, and supervisors to use before, during, and after a program); barriers to the transfer of learning; voices from the field (ways of ensuring learning transfer, the heart of learning transfer, ingredients for successful learning transfer, how transfer of learning occurs, indicators of transfer of learning in a workplace program, strategies for creating a true transfer partnership, and other issues related to transfer); and toward a deeper understanding of transfer (how transfer is operationalized, the generalizability of training design studies, decisions regarding which trainee characteristics to investigate, ways work environment-related factors impact the transfer of learning). Part 7 contains five application exercises. The manual contains 16 references and an annotated bibliography of 19 selected publications devoted to transfer of training. (MN)
