This document consists of the first two issues of a new newsletter of the National Clearinghouse for Profession in Special Education (NCPSE). The following articles are featured: "Diversity in the Special Education Teaching Force" (Judy L. Wald), which discusses reasons for the lack of teachers in special and general education from diverse backgrounds; "We Have Answers...," which describes NCPSE's databases; "Financial Aid for Culturally Diverse Students," which includes a list of organizations which assists students from diverse backgrounds in locating financial aid resources; "Notes to Recruiters," includes information on how NCPSE can help recruiters to recruit students into careers in special education; "OSEP Funded Projects Recommend Strategies for Retention of Special Education Professionals" (Judy L. Wald), which discusses the findings of three projects on school-based practices that lead to the retention of special education professionals, including strategies related to state and local levels, strategies related to job design, and strategies for administrators and principals; "Educational Interpreters--A Brief Look at the Issues" (Daniel Burch), which discusses the lack of licensure standards for educational interpreters; "My Experiences as an NCPSE Recruiter" (Teresa Knipstein); and "NCPSE Activities Focus upon Educators with Disabilities," which identifies NCPSE projects that are designed to provide resources to persons with disabilities who are interested in careers in special education.
