Secondary Education in Luxembourg. Guide to Secondary Education in Europe.
This book presents a systematic and coherent exposition of the educational structure of Luxembourg, and also outlines the essential problems the system faces. The text opens with the social and political context of education in the country, which is followed by a description of the different types of secondary education. Some of the specific problems examined include policy-making; innovation and educational support structures; financing and budget; schools and society; the organization of the education system; the school as an institution and a community; the curriculum; assessment; the teaching staff; and the European dimension of education in the country. The text addresses the challenges faced by the large immigrant population in the country, the advantages and drawbacks of a bilingual society, the centralized character of the education system, the state of private education, and the role of the growing finance industry in Luxembourg.
