Classics for Young Readers: An Annotated List of the Most Time-Honored Books for Children Pre-School through Young Adult.
Loer, Stephanie, Comp.
Intended to encourage young people to read, this 140-item annotated bibliography features books chosen because they are distinguished in their categories, have broken new ground in children's publishing, or were written for adults only to be taken by children as their own. The list is presented in 4 age groups: preschool to age 7; middle readers, ages 8 to 11; intermediate readers, ages 10 to 13; and older readers, age 12 to young adult. Included within each age group are different categories of children's literature: picture books, poetry and rhymes, folk and fairy tales, stories and legends. As a guide to obtaining books, the publisher's name appears in parentheses at the end of each listing. (RS)
