This report summarizes a project that focused on the future of the education of physician assistants. The panel of expert presenters represented physician assistant (PA) educators, educators of other health care professionals, employers of PAs, health care oriented foundations, a health care workforce expert, and members of the PA profession. The conference outcome indicated the need for continued examination of the external factors that influence the education and practice of PAs, as well as the development of strategies to respond to the rapidly changing health care environment.
