This booklet provides information to middle school, high school, and college and university students who are interested in learning about future careers in education. Written by high school students, the booklet contains four chapters. Chapter 1, "The Nation's Schools," discusses the role of public schools, private school options, higher education, and other educational opportunities. Chapter 2, "What Teachers Do," examines teacher responsibilities, work time (e.g., hours per week and months per year), and career opportunities and alternatives. Chapter 3, "Professional Associations and Their Roles," focuses on contracts and contract bargaining. Chapter 4, "Aiming for a Career in Teaching," discusses high school and college preparation for teaching, and student teaching. The three appendixes provide: information on Future Educators of America; resource addresses; and a list of books of interest to future educators. (SM)
