Learning from Success: Campus Case Studies in International Program Development. Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Studies in Science, Technology and Culture. Volume 15.
Kelleher, Ann
The case studies presented in this volume offer comparative examples of undergraduate international education innovations in a wide variety of categories: curriculum, study abroad, community outreach, faculty development, and international students. The studies were conducted in the mid-1990s, and programs had to meet several criteria: they had to have a distinctive or unique characteristic; include a significant number of participants; been in operation for at least 5 years; be an institutional program; and have produced a successful spinoff. The following program reports are included: "Educating for a More Just World," Augsburg College (Minnesota); "Establishing an Overseas Learning Center for Local Students," Brookdale Community College (New Jersey); "Producing International Managers," Capilano College (British Columbia, Canada); "Sponsoring Individual Student International Projects," Davidson College (North Carolina); "Enabling Cultural Learning with Ethnographic Projects," Earlham College (Indiana); "Linking Languages with Business," Eastern Michigan University; "Requiring an Overseas Study-Service Experience," Goshen College (Indiana); "Achieving a Universitywide Current Issues Graduation Requirement," Grambling State University (Louisiana); "Learning in Jamaica Through Mutual Human Development," Hollins College (Virginia); "Making International Study Available for All Students," Kalamazoo College (Michigan); "Animating Spanish Instruction Through Service," Pacific University (Oregon); "Applying Telecommunications Technology," Ramapo College of New Jersey;"Offering a Multicountry, Comparative Experience," Saint Olaf College (Minnesota); "Retaining the Enthusiasm of Returning Study Abroad Students," University of California, Irvine; "Initiating an International College," University of California, San Diego; "Contracting International Student Programs," University of Hartford (Connecticut); "Creating Campus-Community Cooperation," University of North Carolina, Asheville; "Venturing a Business-University Partnership," University of North Carolina, Charlotte; "Melding Engineering and German," University of Rhode Island; "Fostering Curriculum Change Through Faculty Overseas Seminars," University of Richmond (Virginia); "Focusing a University Curriculum," University of South California; "Transforming Development Education," Warren Wilson College (North Carolina); "Encouraging Faculty Development Through Service," Wheaton College (Massachusetts); "Coordinating International Education Programs," Whitworth College (Washington); and "Engineering International Education Through a Project-Based Curriculum," Worcester Polytechnic Institute (Massachusetts).
