Net Lessons: Web-Based Projects for Your Classroom.
Roerden, Laura Parker
This book offers educators proven guidelines for using the World Wide Web to enhance an existing curriculum, as well as practical implementation plans and an assessment tool for determining the appropriateness of the Web for specific educational goals. The book is divided into two sections with eight chapters. Part 1 establishes the theoretical framework for an Internet curriculum. It introduces what is unique and potentially useful about both the Internet and the Web, gives an overview of helpful tools, and examines all of the curricular implications of using the Internet in the classroom. An assessment tool for determining when the Web can be used to meet instructional goals is included. Twelve Web activity types (which correspond with lesson plans in Part 2) can be used to help model successful Web projects. Frameworks by subject area are presented, along with thoughts about assessment and tips for facilitating cooperative learning. Part 1 also includes "roadmaps" for beginners, intermediate and advanced users; a framework for creating a successful project; a Web project implementation plan; and ideas for the one-computer classroom. Part 2 offers more than 100 K-12 lesson plans and ideas that utilize the Web in all subject areas. Many projects include tips for adapting the lesson up or down to different age groups. Lesson plans are presented at the beginning, intermediate and advanced level. Appendices include a lesson plan index, worksheets, and a list of top sites for educational sources. (AEF)
