This anthology presents ideas expressed at the International Society for Education Through Art (INSEA), 1990 Conference. The Conference brought together educators from United States, Canada, England, Germany, the Netherlands, and Australia to examine the current state of assessment and evaluation in the visual arts, and to identify desirable developments. The editors and contributors to this volume provide insights into the complexities of assessment in a range of institutional settings, and set signposts to assist both practioners and theorists in dealing with the problems they now face. "Part I: Evaluating Art Education in Schools" includes papers that examine the assessment of: Content, Teaching, and Outcomes in schools. "Part II: Evaluating Museum Art Education Programs" presents discussions of the particular difficulties related to "Museum Education and the Audience" and "Museum Policy and Cultural Heritage." The anthology ends with a chapter of Conclusions, by editor Doug Boughton, biographic annotations about the contributors, and an Index.
