Cityworks: A Strategic Planning Model for Workforce Education and Training. Progress Report, January-June 1996.
City Coll. of San Francisco, CA.
"CityWorks" is a strategic plan for improving workforce education and training at California's City College of San Francisco (CCSF). In January 1996, a Project Group was formed to determine a timeline and tasks to be accomplished by the project through June 1996, establishing goals related to project dissemination, forming external linkages, implementing pilot course clusters, and developing work experience and placement services plans. In the 6-month period, information has been disseminated both to the campus community and external groups. In addition, presentations were made at area high schools to showcase CCSF offerings and the Learn to Earn program was established in spring 1996 among community-based organizations (CBO's), area high schools, and CCSF to provide a model for students interested in careers in health care. Developments were also achieved with respect to course clusters, with the hotel and restaurant/hospitality cluster meeting with workers and educators in Las Vegas to review curricula and the Health clusters reviewing pre-requisites to help ease the movement of students among programs. Other project accomplishments include the completion of a Work Experience Plan in May 1996, setting requirements for earning credit for off-campus activities; the establishment of Career Connection to coordinate linkages between employers and CCSF; and a plan to survey industry and CBO contacts.
