Growing Good Kids: 28 Activities To Enhance Self-Awareness, Compassion, and Leadership.
Delisle, Deb; Delisle, Jim
This book offers teachers of grades 3-8 creative and fun activities that build students' skills in problem solving, decision making, cooperative learning, divergent thinking, and communication. The book offers 28 diverse and original enrichment activities that teach personal values such as responsibility, compassion, leadership, and respect for others. Among these activity titles are: Grate Misteaks (of fifth- and sixth-graders); Little Stories of Our Classroom; A Personal Classroom Pledge; The Ultimate Vacation; Possible Dreams; If We Were in Charge of The World; and Creative Inventors. The step-by-step, classroom-tested activities encourage students to create books and write stories, undertake community service projects (locally and globally), explore their own values, take risks, and learn from mistakes. The book provides lesson plans that can be incorporated into the curriculum, many with extensions and variations for use at school, at home, and in the community. Activities units include materials lists and forms, learning objectives, time requirements, related curriculum, activity steps and variations. The book also includes 57 reproducible handout and transparency masters and contains 35 resource references. (CR)
