Facilitating International Business Communication: A Global Perspective.

This document, which is intended for business educators at all levels, outlines two approaches to facilitating international business communication by adopting a global approach in business communication and related business education courses. In the first half of the document, the following steps in implementing the separate-course approach, are examined: understanding the separate-course approach; securing approval for the new course; devising the purpose statement and course objectives; determining the primary instructional orientation; identifying instructional resources; selecting course content and instructional activities (culture, language, environment and technology, social organization, contexting and face-saving, authority conception, nonverbal communication, negotiating, sociobusiness skills, temporal conception, culture shock and reverse culture shock, and country-specific applications); and evaluating course content and instructional activities. Discussed in the second half of the document are the following topics related to implementing the infusion approach: understanding the infusion approach; implementing the infusion approach; and infusing international business communication into various courses (accounting, basic business and economics, business communications, computer literacy, keyboarding, marketing, microcomputer/technology applications, office occupations, teacher education, telecommunications, and training and development).
