This book presents 21 case studies of young children with disabilities in a variety of family situations and settings, for early interventionists to study in planning and applying recommended practices. Section I, "Defining and Delivering Quality Services in Early Intervention," provides two introductory chapters: "The Search for Quality Indicators" (Donald B. Bailey, Jr. and P. J. McWilliam) and "Real-World Challenges to Achieving Quality" (P. J. McWilliam). Section II consists of the case studies themselves, including 15 cases which apply recommended practices and 6 cases which present problem-solving situations. Jones); "Peter and the Watermelon Seeds" (Virginia E. Bishop); "Only Time Will Tell" (Jean Lowe); "The Blooming of Rose" (Eileen Ziesler); "The Eye of the Beholder" (Sandra Petersen and Hal C. Lewis); "Shaping Ben's Future" (Karen E. Diamond and Phyllis Spiegel-McGill); "In Whose Best Interest?" (Brandon F. Greene et al.); and "The Go-Between" (Irene Nathan Zipper). The six problem-solving situations, all written by P. J. McWilliam, include: "The Team Meeting,""Close to Home,""A Matter of Policy,""Supermom,""April Must Wait," and "Piecing Together the Community Puzzle." A list of recommended readings is appended. (PB)
