Statistical Handbook on Violence in America.
Dobrin, Adam, Ed.; And Others
This handbook assembles, in one volume, the latest data on violence in a logically ordered and well-documented format that draws on published and unpublished sources of information about violence in the United States and its major divisions. Five topical chapters deal with aspects of violence and its consequences. Chapter 1 describes patterns of interpersonal violence that result in death, and Chapter 2 characterizes other types of interpersonal violence, assault, robbery, rape, and car jacking. Groups and situations that are vulnerable or at high-risk are profiled in Chapter 3. Chapter 4 focuses on the tangible losses and measurable consequences of violence in human and economic terms. Public opinion about violence is discussed in Chapter 5. An appendix lists the 69 data sources used for the compilation. References follow the chapters. (Contains 40 figures and 337 tables.) (SLD)
