Kobuk Inupiaq Literacy Manual.
The manual is designed to teach writing to native speakers of Kobuk Inupiaq, a regional dialect of Alaskan Inupiaq Eskimo. Spelling is emphasized. An introductory section for teachers details the use of the manual, chapter by chapter, and suggests classroom activities. The first chapter provides an introduction to the writing system of Kobuk Inupiaq. Subsequent chapters outline the characteristics of vowels, stop consonants, long vowels and diphthongs, syllables, voiced fricatives, voiceless fricatives, nasals, long consonants, and diphthong orthography. The final chapter presents general spelling rules. Each chapter includes exercises. (MSE)
