This set of materials consists of two booklets designed to assist parents in helping their children to study and learn appropriate studying skills, beginning at preschool and primary grade levels. Book 1 is designed for use at the preschool level and Book 2 is designed for use at the kindergarten to Grade 3 level. Each of these volumes contains tips for studying and guidelines for developing studying skills such as the ability to locate, organize and recall information; to adjust reading rate; to use formal studying methods; to use graphic aids; and to follow directions. In Book 1, additional information is given on recognizing the alphabet and numbers, learning about books, sorting information, establishing categories, sequencing information, and modelling appropriate behavior for study. In Book 2, additional information is given on alphabetizing, locating words and meanings in the dictionary, using tables of contents, using reference materials, developing appropriate library behaviors, and understanding book arrangement, determining essential and nonessential information in stories, and reading picture graphs, circle graphs, and pie graphs.
