New Jersey State Dept. of Education, Trenton.
The New Jersey Grade 11 High School Proficiency Test (HSPT11) consists of sections for reading, mathematics, and writing that must be passed as requirements for a high school diploma. Students who do not pass all three sections receive additional instruction and retake sections they have not passed. HSPT sections were administered to 6,973 Grade 12 students in 1994. Table 1 presents statewide results for these students, 5,854 of whom were retesting students, and 1,119 of whom were first-time test takers. Of the retesting students, 27.2% passed all the sections, while 54.8% of the first-time test takers passed all the sections. Of retesting students, 29.3% passed the reading test this time, 23.7% passed the mathematics test, and 41.9% passed the writing test. Table 1 presents statewide results for Grade 12 students, and tables 2 through 6 present results for each subject. The report also contains district-by-district and school-by-school results grouped by district factor group. District factor groups are groupings by socioeconomic status. (Contains 6 tables and a 43-page compilation of results.) (SLD)
