Grade 11 High school Proficiency Test (HSPT11), April 1995. State Summary.
New Jersey State Dept. of Education, Trenton.
The New Jersey Grade 11 High School Proficiency Test (HSPT11) consists of reading, mathematics, and writing sections, all of which must be passed as graduation requirements. Students who do not pass all three sections receive additional instruction and are retested on the section or sections they did not pass. Scores are reported as scale scores from 100 to 500, with a passing score of 300. One or more sections of the HSPT11 was administered in April 1995 to 15,582 Grade 11 students, excluding special education and limited English proficiency students. The majority of these students, 14,620, were retesting students, and only 962 were first-time test takers. Of the retesters, 61% passed all the sections attempted, and of the first-time takers, only 45.1% passed all the sections. Table 1 presents statewide results for students who took the April test. Tables 2 through 6 present results for each subject. Finally, the report contains a summary, in table form (43 pages) of district-by-district and school-by-school results grouped by District Factor Groups. District Factor Groups describe the socioeconomic status of residents of the area. (Contains seven tables.) (SLD)
