Colorado Graduation Rates for Class of 1994 and 1993-94 Annual Dropout Rates for Grades 7-12.
MacKenzie, Stella
This report contains summary tables of Colorado state graduation rates for the class of 1994 and dropout rates for the 1993-94 school year, along with reports of graduation and dropout rates by school district. The dropout rate is an annual rate reflecting the percentage of all students enrolled in grades 7 through 12 who leave school during the reporting period and who are not known to transfer to other public or private schools. The dropout rate for the 1993-94 period was 4.3%, the same rate reported for the 1992-93 school year. This rate does not include students who were expelled from school. Of the 12,790 students reported as dropouts during the 1992-93 year, 3,780 were reported as retrievals during the 1993-94 year. The 1994 graduation rate is a 4-year rate based on school district reports for students who began ninth grade in the 1990-91 school year. The graduation rate for the class of 1994 was 78.8%, a decrease of 1.1% from rates reported for the classes of 1992 and 1993. The rate for traditional high schools only was 81.8% in 1994. This reflected modest but steady increases in the graduation rates of minority groups in traditional schools. Some questions and answers about dropout and school completer rates are attached.
