Review of Transition-Related Assessment Instruments.
Dais, Teresa A.; Kohler, Paula D.
This monograph presents a compilation and analysis of published reviews of 142 commercially available assessment instruments and practices relevant for use in transition planning for students with disabilities. An introductory paper describes the data collection and analysis process involved in the review of instruments. It notes that analysis of reviews in test review journals found 64 percent of instruments reviewed were recommended at least to some degree and only 25 percent were not recommended by journal reviewers. Most of the instruments were criterion-referenced and designed to be administered to individuals. The bulk of the document consists of the summaries of individual measures. Information provided for each instrument includes: title; publisher; date; author; review information (complete citations of any reviews); cost; administration time; assessment description; assessment format; assessment type; examiner requirements; skills or materials required; recommended uses; focus of assessment; population characteristics (norming population, age equivalents, applicable population); technical aspects (reliability, validity, norming information); and recommendations including applicable transition outcome areas, reviewer recommendations, and general comments. Indexes by assessment focus and transition outcome areas are provided. (DB)
