Intended to help practitioners make the transition from traditional to whole language instruction in reading and writing, this 160-item annotated bibliography provides a selection of journal articles and research reports, language arts curriculum guides, student texts, and professional textbooks which reflect whole language theory, research, practice, and evaluation. The introduction gives background information on and defines the whole language movement. Materials in the annotated bibliography were published between 1980 and 1993. The bibliography provides annotations of (1) 96 journal articles and research reports (nearly all published in 1991 or 1992); (2) 25 professional textbooks; (3) 15 student texts; and (4) 24 curriculum guides.
