Intended for the vocational health occupations (VHO) teacher during the transition from clinician to teacher, this practical handbook offers advice on bridging the gap between practice and teaching. Chapter 1 addresses defining one's new role. Chapter 2 on classroom instruction looks at student motivation, teaching techniques, student feedback, assessment, and test construction. Chapter 3 on laboratory management deals with student safety, infection control procedures, and assessing student performance. Chapter 4 discusses the role and responsibility of a supervisor of clinical instruction. Chapter 5 describes characteristics of adolescents. Chapter 6 considers the student's process from the initial application through the entire educational phase of a health-related program. Chapters 7 through 10 focus on program marketing, curriculum development, performance objectives, and competency-based education. Chapter 11 deals with legal issues. Chapters 12 and 13 concern the VHO teacher's role in and activities of Health Occupations Students of America. Chapters 14 and 15 provide overviews of vocational education and health occupations education. Chapter 16 describes the educational model for VHOs at the community, state, and federal level.
