Guide to Education for Students with Special Needs.

This guide sets out the requirements and expectations for the development and delivery of programs for students with special needs in Alberta, Canada. First, it describes legislation (especially the School Act of 1988) and policy related to educating students with special needs. Next it specifies established requirements and expectations in the following areas: screening for early identification, referral, assessment, program planning and implementation, program placement, outcomes, appeals, children's services, health-related support services, transition planning, and school board policy. A glossary defines key terms and an appendix defines the categories of special needs which are accepted and used for administrative and funding purposes in the province. (DB)
