The interview is a special case of interpersonal communication. It is a communication event with a serious and predetermined purpose with the basic mode of communication being the asking and answering of questions. People are engaged in interviews throughout their lives from the employment setting to the counseling setting. This annotated bibliography contains 32 references from 1976-1994 where the primary purpose of the investigation was to determine the relationship between gender and the interview outcome. Examples of topics covered are: interview validity for selecting sales clerks; unfair discrimination in the employment interview; importance of researcher's gender in the in-depth interview; contrast effects for black, white, male and female interviewees.
