Steps and Practical Guidelines for Developing and Implementing Self-Management Programs for Children's Social Behavior on the Playgrounds.
This paper offers six steps for developing and implementing a self-management program to improve children's social behaviors on the school playground. Introductory information provides a literature review of self-management strategies and programs. The self-management program recommended is divided into three broad phases encompassing assessment, intervention, and evaluation. The following six steps are detailed: (1) gather information about target behaviors and settings; (2) analyze the information; (3) teach specific interpersonal skills, if necessary; (4) select self-management strategies to teach (such as self-recording, self-evaluation, or self-graphing); (5) implement the self-management program; and (6) evaluate the program.
