This handbook was developed as a resource on learning disabilities (LD) for North Carolina educators. The first section covers guidelines for identifying, diagnosing, and developing services for LD students. The handbook then provides an overview of effective practices for teaching students with learning disabilities and some ideas for structuring programs at the elementary and secondary school levels. Several special topics are then addressed: practical tips for teachers, LD students in the regular classroom, computer applications, transition planning, and social skills. Appendices provide curricular area information and resources, a list of organizations and journals in the LD field, a software review form, addresses for publishers of software and textbooks, a list of general books on learning disabilities, and a case study on the identification and implementation of services for an LD student.
