How To Evaluate Your Present Spelling Program. AVKO "Great Idea" Reprint Series No. 621.
This booklet describes a method that any school can use to test the effectiveness of their current spelling program or to compare various spelling programs being used within their system. After a brief discussion of the cost of the program, the booklet describes the paired word approach to evaluating spelling programs, in which one set of words is used as a pretest and a second set of words of the same difficulty, but not taught as part of the program, is used as a posttest. The booklet next discusses a sample construction of the test, and the 10 steps to follow in evaluating spelling programs. A sample scorer's posttest check sheet and a chart containing samples of equivalent word pairs of equal statistical difficulties are attached. (RS)
