Telecommunications and Education: Surfing and the Art of Change. An Institute for the Transfer of Technology to Education (ITTE) Technology Leadership Network Special Report.
Frazier, Gloria G.; Frazier, Deneen
Online networking can be a driving force in education reform. This book tells how educators can link classrooms, offices, laboratories, homes, and the world's information technologies using simple computer and telephone technologies connected to the Internet or other online networks. What online networking can accomplish and how it should be used are outlined in sections on: (1) learning to "surf" computer networks; (2) which networks to "surf"; (3) how to use them in education; and (4) how electronic networks affect cultural change. Resource guides describe online services of special interest to educators and provide contact information. A glossary, staff development guide, sample school Internet policies, a needs assessment matrix, and a policy document published by the National Coordinating Committee on Technology in Education and Training are included. Fourteen charts and tables illustrate the discussion. (SLD)
