Phonics That Work! New Strategies for the Reading/Writing Classroom.
Using easy-to-understand models from everyday practice and supporting the classroom observations with research, this book describes how a teacher replaced traditional phonics instruction with strategies incorporating "onset" and "rime" that improved students' reading comprehension. The book notes that as students' level of comfort with phonics increased, they began to enjoy reading more, and that these experiences deepened the teacher's involvement with holistic teaching. Chapters in the book are: (1) A Journey toward Change; (2) A New Look at Old Phonics; (3) Analogy Minilessons; (4) Integrating Analogy Instruction into a Holistic Reading/Writing Daily Program; (5) Student Progress; and (6) Reflections.
