Promoting Environmental Education: An Action Handbook for Strengthening EE in Your State and Community.

This book is designed to be a resource tool for all environmental education advocates and supporters, particularly those seeking to fully incorporate environmental education into their state and local school system. It provides a conceptual model for understanding comprehensive environmental education programs and the steps necessary to achieve this goal. Five parts cover the following topics: (1) an introduction to the status of environmental education in the United States today, and the need for comprehensive environmental education programs, at both the state and local level; (2) a recommended step-by-step process for developing an environmental education initiative campaign; (3) an in-depth description of the many possible components of a comprehensive environmental education program at the state level; (4) an in-depth description of the many possible components of a comprehensive environmental education program at the local level; (5) three state-level and five local-level case histories; and (6) a glossary, organizing worksheets, and a 73-item annotated resource list. Sixteen appendices contain a selection of legislation, bylaws, sample budgets, executive orders, and other documents from states and local communities working towards comprehensive environmental education programs.
