Intended for parents, teachers, or anyone whose contact with children requires an effective relationship, this handbook provides a collection of communication strategies and activities to improve positive relationships with children, particularly younger and older adolescents. Part 1 deals with techniques for communicating effectively with children, alone or in group settings, and discusses important considerations for managing change and making positive connections with them. Part 2 focuses on specific activities designed to enhance children's positive view of themselves and of the world. Each activity description includes the necessary level of group cohesion, "target lessons" (the lessons that the activity teaches), materials needed, space required, activities for the children and the facilitator, variations, and debriefings.
