Exploring the Southeast States through Literature. Exploring the United States through Literature Series.
Veltze, Linda, Ed.; And Others
This book is comprised of seven annotated regional resource guides to selected print and nonprint materials for grades K-8. Each regional bibliography is divided into state sections identifying materials that relate to the history, culture, geography, resources, industries, literature and lore, and famous figures of the states in the region. This volume focuses on the 12 states that make up the Southeast: (1) Alabama; (2) Arkansas; (3) Florida; (4) Georgia; (5) Kentucky; (6) Louisiana; (7) Mississippi; (8) North Carolina; (9) South Carolina; (10) Tennessee; (11) Virginia; and (12) West Virginia. The materials included in this resource guide were selected because they can be used by teachers and librarians to enrich young people's understanding of the histories and contemporary cultures of the Southeastern states, and because they are suitable for use with young people from any of the regional or ethnic groups of the contemporary United States. Each annotation includes a brief description of the particular work, a comment on its usefulness or appropriateness, and at least one learning activity compatible with the identified interest level of the resource.
