Blinn College Performance of 1993 Fall Semester Students in Associated 1994 Spring Semester Courses, and Other Student Performance Trackings. Student Performance Report. Institutional Research Document No. 008C.

A study was conducted at Blinn College in Texas to investigate the performance of students enrolled in 20 selected fall 1993 courses and their subsequent performance in related courses in spring 1994. The study sought to provide an outcome measure for the courses that could be use in program review and development, student advisement, and student retention activities. For example, there were 651 students enrolled in Biology 1408 in fall 1993, with 416 of the group receiving a C or better. In spring 1994, all but 167 of those 651 students were still enrolled at Blinn, with 171 of them enrolled in the associated course, Biology 1409. Of the 171 students, 125 received a grade of C or better in Biology 1409, 27 students received a D or F, and 16 did not complete the course. Other sample findings included the following: (1) of the 1,810 students who took English 1301 in fall 1993, 853 took English 1302 in spring 1994; (2) of the 762 continuing students who received a grade of A through C in English 1301, 558 received a grade of A through C in English 1302, 69 received a D or F, 127 dropped out, and 1 received an incomplete; and (3) 32 students who received a D or F in Math 0309 in fall 1993 repeated the course in spring 1994, and 10 received an A through C. The bulk of the report consists of tables comparing fall and spring grades for each pair of courses, and including the number of students who did not take the related course and the number not enrolled at Blinn College in Spring 1994.
