Newspapers. Resource Books for Teachers Series.
This book provides a range of practical ideas for teachers of English as a first or second language for working with newspapers in the classroom. It seeks not only to provide teachers with resources and techniques for using newspapers, but also to give students practice in the skills needed to enable them to read English-language newspapers for themselves. The bulk of the text consists of 100 specific activities, of varying degrees of difficulty and proficiency levels, for using newspapers with students. Each activity listing contains the language proficiency level required, time to complete the activity, materials needed, skills to be developed, the nature of the activity, preparation required (if any), a step-by-step description of the activity, possible variations, and comments. An appendix lists English-language newspapers available in different parts of the world. (MDM)
