From Data to Action: Information Systems in Educational Planning.

Many developing countries are now making substantial gains in developing databases on their education system. This book focuses on strengthening the link between improvements in information with better practice at the school level. It provides a synthesis of lessons learned from recent experience and research in collecting, analyzing, and using information at various levels of the educational system in the context of developing countries. It contains four national case studies (of Chile, Togo, Mauritius, and Haiti) and five issue papers in which specialists consider ways of improving education-information systems that can contribute to enhance quality and efficiency in education. The studies and papers emphasize the human factors and nonmonetary incentives that encourage and sustain information utilization. Finally, agendas for further research and training are proposed as a framework that administrators in other countries can use to evaluate the needs of their information systems.
