The ACCK Preservice Early Intervention Project. Final Report.
Rosenkoetter, Sharon; And Others
The Preservice Early Intervention Project of the Associated Colleges of Central Kansas (ACCK) was designed to recruit highly promising students into the preservice specialization in Early Childhood Special Education and to give them competencies from multiple disciplines to appropriately serve infants/toddlers with disabilities or developmental delay and their families. The project is helping to address the severe shortage of early intervention personnel for infants and toddlers in rural Kansas. The project developed improved practicum experiences to prepare students for the variety of roles and service delivery models they will fill as interventionists; integrated competencies related to consultation, transdisciplinary team collaboration, family empowerment, family service coordination, atypical human development, service delivery, and transition planning; and participated in systems for cooperative planning. This report describes the context and goal of the project, conceptual framework, accomplishments, challenges encountered, and impact and dissemination. Appendices provide a copy of a recruitment brochure, stipend procedures, a brochure about early intervention seminars offered, syllabi for courses offered, and vitae of project personnel.
