This booklet gives minority high school and college students information about preparing for a newspaper career. If newspapers are to survive and thrive, they must attract and serve America's increasingly multicultural readership. The booklet includes a discussion of the challenges of diversity and an overview of journalism. A career and salary report explains the types of jobs available in journalism and salary ranges that can be expected. The academic preparation needed for journalistic careers is described, and some job-hunting tips are outlined. Lists of grants, programs, and recruiters are given, grouped into: (1) grants from organizations; (2) internship programs; (3) special training programs; and (4) recruiters. Scholarship and employment information is summarized. (SLD)
