Developing Cultural Literacy through the Writing Process: Empowering All Learners.
Palmer, Barbara C.; And Others
Combining the expansion of cultural literacy with the development of process-based writing, this book addresses each stage of the writing process, with emphasis on the recursive and overlapping nature of these stages. Numerous related model activities at the end of each chapter show how to develop the writing process, while expanding the writer's knowledge base and providing opportunities for the writer to think critically. Content from across subject areas is included in the model activities with an intent to strike a balance between knowledge and thinking. Chapters in the book are: (1) The Stages of the Writing Process and Their Recursive Nature; (2) Teacher Expectations and Mental Rehearsal for Successful Writing; (3) Prewriting: Generating and Planning; (4) Drafting and Translating; (5) Sharing the Draft: Conferring and Responding; (6) Revising and Editing; (7) Technology and Composing; (8) Modes of Publishing; (9) Journal Writing: A Heuristic Activity; (10) Metacognitive Awareness and Self-Monitoring; (11) A Portfolio Approach to Assessment and Other Types of Evaluation.
