This book presents a list of over 700 old, new, and award-winning books for every age from preschool to the teens concerning subjects about black culture and heritage. It covers a variety of interests including history, biographies, folk tales, Africa, the Caribbean, poetry, the arts, facts, and fiction. This book is a comprehensive guide for teachers, librarians, educators, parents, or anyone interested in exposing students from preschool to young adults to books about the culture and experiences of black people. Each entry provides information on the book's contents, author, illustrator, publisher, copyright date, grade level, price, and any award it may have won. Fictional books are divided into three chapters: Picture Books and Beginning Fiction for preschool through grade 3; Fiction for Middle Grades for grades 3 through 6; and Young Adult Fiction for grades 7 and up. A list of out-of-print books is also provided. Appendices include a list of all winners and honor books of the Coretta Scott King Award, as well as title and author/illustrator indexes. (GLR)
