This resource book is designed to assist educators in developing curricula and learning materials that are centered around the values of cultural pluralism. The booklet first presents a policy statement, created by the Board of Education of the Rochester City School District (New York), concerning multicultural education and curriculum development. It then addresses ways of achieving a multicultural perspective in curriculum development, the objectives of multicultural curriculum development, and sources of multicultural learning opportunities. A multicultural perspective in curriculum development encourages the incorporation of accurate, comprehensive, non-biased information about diverse cultures into teaching tools and instructional programs. Next, an approach to selecting textbooks and other materials is presented along with a list of criteria to consider when making selections, followed by an approach for developing curricula with a multicultural perspective. The booklet's final section examines ways of creating a multicultural environment.
