Reading Inventory for the Classroom.
Flynt, E. Sutton; Cooter, Robert B., Jr.
Designed to assist teachers in the placement of students with appropriate reading and instructional materials, this book presents an informal reading inventory intended for use in public or private schools, intervention programs, or clinical settings for student in grades one through nine. The informal reading inventory in the book is traditional in appearance but has a number of features that reflect the current state of knowledge concerning the assessment of reading processes: high interest passages, longer passages, passage retellings, story grammar analyses, expository text grammars, and miscue analysis grids. After an introductory section, the book presents three forms of the Flynt-Cooter informal reading inventory. Each form is composed of three sections: sentences to determine initial passage selection, the reading passages themselves, and the accompanying assessment protocols. Appendixes present optional miscue grids, additional guidelines, and a scored student example. (RS)
